Verified Competencies Demonstrated by Julia de Freitas Casimiro da Silva

By completing this curriculum to the standards of the IxDF Educational Codex, Julia de Freitas Casimiro da Silva has demonstrated mastery of how to:

  • Apply Gestalt psychology principles to web and interface design to create displays that align with how users naturally perceive visual information.

  • Use figure/ground organization to make key elements stand out, capture attention, and counteract banner blindness.

  • Leverage the laws of proximity and similarity to group related items and visually separate unrelated content for faster scanning.

  • Guide users to important information by applying dissimilarity and whitespace to break uniformity and direct focus.

  • Structure interfaces using the laws of common region, closure, and unified connectedness to communicate grouping with minimal visual clutter.

  • Improve data-ink ratio by using partial borders, simple lines, and negative space without sacrificing clarity or meaning.

  • Apply the laws of common fate and synchrony to signal relationships between moving or simultaneously appearing elements, such as menus and animations.

  • Apply the law of familiarity through patterns like tabs and skeuomorphic cues to reduce learning time and increase usability.

  • Use symmetry and continuity to create balanced, visually pleasing layouts that support quick comprehension.

  • Identify common design pitfalls that violate perceptual biases and correct them to improve user experience and conversion.

  • Critically evaluate existing websites through a Gestalt lens to recommend evidence-based design improvements.

  • Make deliberate design decisions that reduce cognitive load and help users complete tasks efficiently.
