By completing this curriculum to the standards of the IxDF Educational Codex, Ricardo Gil has demonstrated mastery of how to:
Use the psychology of emotion to shape how a product makes people feel, so that it earns a place in users' lives.
Make sense of why a product succeeds or struggles by evaluating it against Don Norman's three levels of design (visceral, behavioral, and reflective).
Justify emotional-design decisions to teams and stakeholders using established frameworks and evidence rather than intuition.
Design across the full experience arc, accounting for anticipation, the moment of use, and the story a user tells afterward.
Apply color, imagery, and typography to influence emotional response and behavior.
Use branding and advertising techniques that engage users on a reflective level.
Apply the aesthetic-usability effect to make visual choices that earn user confidence.
Shape how a design feels before conscious evaluation by applying the cognitive and affective systems
Map design decisions to user motivation using Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Target instinct, emotion, and reason across applied design areas using MacLean's Triune Brain model.
Determine when positive, neutral, or negative emotion best serves a product, including the deliberate use of negative affect.
Strengthen user attachment by applying the product-emotion cycle and the factors behind human-product connection.
Explain how emotion supports decision-making and attention, not just feeling.
Distinguish emotion, mood, and affect, and account for how a user's current mood shapes their response to a design.
Assess emotional states using the valence and arousal dimensions of affect, and deepen engagement through the concepts of flow, the "happy mean," and enchantment.
