UX Newbies and Experts Conversation Starter

Add to your calendar:

Hey there Austin IxDF members! I am relatively new to the IxDF community and world of UX at large. I came to this field from a 12 year career as a live audio engineer and so I would like to get to know some other folks coming from wildly unrelated fields as well as those expert veterans of design. I think it would be great for us to connect and get to know each other as well as discuss all things UX. As someone who as been somewhat intimidated with my career change I think there are many out there who might feel the same way. Why not help each other out?! If you're interested in joining let me know!

hi everyone, hope everyone is staying warm and safe. I hope to attend but with the rolling blackouts, I may not have the opportunity. I am Chris and in the middle of a career change (scary). And taking a boot camp which is taking me longer than others. I am hoping to elevate my knowledge and catch by utilizing other sources. Looking forward to engaging with everyone as I make my journey into the design realm

I think this is a GREAT idea! I'm also new to the community and feeling a little intimidated...thanks for setting this up. Agenda-how to get started? I'm working on my portfolio and resume, does anyone else have ideas on how to get started?

All of the job postings I'm seeing are looking for a degree in Computer Science or HCI; I have an Education/English degree. I'm feeling like a fish out of water but have done really well with the online certificates so I want to bridge the gap. The IxDF classes I've done have shown me that this is something I'll be great at. Anyone else?

Hey Cybele, I changed the date a couple days ago due to the extreme weather, work schedule getting switched around, and to allow folks to get some time to get their lives back together after losing power and water for so long. I dropped a message in this message board but I am not sure how quickly updates are sent through IxDF. Sorry for rescheduling last minute but hope you will attend next week!

    Hey folks,

Due to the extreme weather conditions we have had and some last minute shuffling around with my work schedule, I have decided to reschedule this meet up for the following Sunday, 2/28. I apologize for any inconvenience but I am looking forward to getting to know some more design heads! I sincerely hope everyone out there is staying safe and as warm as possible and that you made it out unscathed. Thanks so much for signing up and I look forward to conducting this meet up on the 28th!

Questions? We've Got Answers

What is an IxDF Local Group and why should I join one?

An IxDF Local Group is a meeting point for people with a passion for design in your city.

You don't need to be a designer, just passionate about great design and how it can improve your work and career.

Meetups are the heartbeat of IxDF Local Groups, whether we meet at a café, a creative space or a local company. There's nothing quite like the magic of meeting face-to-face to share ideas and inspiration.

We also host regular IxDF Design Dinners, where we enjoy great food and help each other learn and grow. Even a simple coffee meetup in a café can ignite collaborations and friendships that last a lifetime.

You'll also have a private and exclusive online forum where you can openly get help and career advice.

Simply put, we learn together and smile together.

You'll expand your career network, discover new skills, explore job opportunities, meet potential clients, or even find your next dedicated team member when you join an xDF Local Group.

Remember: Your network is your net worth.
