Las Vegas UX/UI Book Club #001 - "The User Experience Team of One" by Leah Buley

Add to your calendar:

Hi IxDF Las Vegas, please join the next event by Las Vegas UX/UI Meetup group- our first UX Book Club.

This series will be dedicated to reading and discussing books related to UX and Product Design. Anyone interested in these topics is welcome to join.

The pilot meeting will happen virtually on Thursday, March 4 at 6 PM PT at Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/wte-wanv-cvq

Our first read is "The User Experience Team of One" by Leah Buley. This book is divided into 2 parts: Philosophy, which speaks about the UX field in general and what it's like to be a solo UX-er, and Practice, which describes specific research and design methods.

At the first meeting, we'll be discussing chapters 1-4, which cover the Philosophy part. We can decide as a group whether we want to cover the rest of the book at the second meeting or break it up into more parts for more in-depth discussions.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, as well as any questions that may have come up while reading that you would like to discuss with the group!

Our first Las Vegas UX club meeting is just a few days away!

Book: “The UX Team of One" by Leah Buley (Chapters 1-4)

Hope you were able to get your hands on the book and enjoyed it so far! If not – that’s ok, reading the book is not required to participate. The book is just an excuse to talk about UX-related concepts and methods, as well as our experiences and ideas.

Here is a tentative list of questions for discussion in case you want to think about them beforehand. We may not have time for all of these, and we are also not limited to the questions on this list, bring your ideas and questions to the group!

    • What is your opinion of the book so far? What did you like most, and what did you dislike most?
    • What ideas or quotes stood out to you the most?
    • Have you encountered any Team of One challenges in the past? Which challenges and how did you try to overcome them?
    • Chapter 3 and 4: Which recommendations and advice did you find most useful? Did you disagree with any of the recommendations?
    • Chapter 1 and 2: What are your thoughts on how the author explained what UX is and what UX professionals do? Have you ever had to explain to someone what UX is, and how did you explain it?
    • Have you applied any UX tools or methods that were new for you recently? (ok if the UX method was not mentioned in the book). What was the method, and did you find it useful?
    • Which educational formats and resources have you tried and would recommend?
    • What new things did you learn?
    • What questions do you still have?
