Jobs for Juniors: The Manifesto

Add to your calendar:

Hello! I hope you are well.
My name is Altovise “Allie” Curtis and I am a Sr. UX Strategist, Researcher, and Product Designer who now serves as a full-time mentor and coach. A few years ago, I started CappUXcino N Coffee (from IxDF) as a small meetup in San Diego, CA which quickly grew. From those efforts (a signature workshop called UX Idol, bi-weekly in-person meetups, and community involvement with my 20+ mentees) has become a business (UX Professionals Mentorship, LLC) to continue advocating for junior-level UXers and the companies that need them.

I recently kicked off a new initiative from Sept. 1 through Q4 ‘21 called Jobs for Juniors. The goal is to have 20 junior-level UXers hired by January 2022. One of the efforts - and there are a few - is a collective (virtual) workshop to create/write the Jobs for Juniors Manifesto. It’s something I’ve been wanting to create for almost 3 years and am ready to move forward and put it out into the world.

I find great power in collaboration, especially an initiative such as this where diverse voices are needed, and would love to open up the process of creating it with you to ensure every voice that matters is heard and accounted for.

The date has been set for September 28th, 2021 and details are forthcoming to those who sign up to participate. Please help spread the word.

YOU are more than welcome to join us for this virtual event to create a holistic Manifesto for our Junior-level peers.

  • Newbie and seasoned UXers: researchers, designers, strategists, writers, etc.

  • Product professionals

  • Recruiters

  • Hiring managers

  • Team leads

  • HR professionals

"There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist or accept the responsibility of changing them." ~ Denis Waitley

I'd like to give a special shoutout and Thank You to the wonderful participants of yesterday's workshop, Jobs for Juniors in UX: The Manifesto! These wonderful people have helped put something in motion that will be the change we all hope to see in hiring for User Experience.

What is an IxDF Local Group and why should I join one?

An IxDF Local Group is a meeting point for people with a passion for design in your city.

We also host regular IxDF Design Dinners, where we enjoy great food and help each other learn and grow. Even a simple coffee meetup in a café can ignite collaborations and friendships that last a lifetime.

You'll also have a private and exclusive online forum where you can openly get help and career advice.
