IxDF Vienna Designers Cabal

Add to your calendar:

Hi IxDF Vienna, let's meet online and discuss UX! In our video call, let's get to know each other and share UX problems we’re facing and discuss how we can solve them. Save the date, grab your laptop (or phone!), and let’s see each other online!

I went with the default meeting text, because this is super new and I'm nervous and I hope we can meet and have fun!

See you soon friends. :)

Hi folks, unfortunately life, work, corona and just general exhaustion means I've had to move the meetup a couple of weeks from tonight. I'm genuinely sorry and hope this doesn't affect anyone's schedules too much.

    Es tut mir leid!

Will give us some time to promote it a bit more now, perhaps grow it into something, who knows, and rest up. Closer to Xmas also means we might be in more of a festive mood, even with these lockdowns.

I promise, if you all attend, I will wear my most festive outfit to apologise.

    :)

    See you soon

    Sam

Hi everyone, looking forward to our relaxed meet. No agenda at this point, unless someone would like to suggest something of course. My intent is just to simply say hi, meet some lovely folks who are in the same boat as I am and just chat about UX life in Vienna during these trying times and perhaps see if we can build an interesting dicussion and support group. Sounds like we have some kind of affliction, haha.

An interesting potential topic (and really fascinating read) perhaps that has piqued my interest and that I've just come across for us to discuss if you are interested is the concept of Systemizing and Empathizing Quotients discussed in a paper by William Hudson and Simon Baron-Cohen (yes that Baron-Cohen, only his cousin) as it applied to User Centred Design.

    note1271-hudson.pdf (syntagm.co.uk)

If I understand the paper correctly, I was wondering how useful this particular scale of people vs technical focus could be if it were applied to personas/users rather than/but also to designers. The general consensus of user persona design being you have a group of 5-8 user personas (a fallacy it seems, as user hours from what I understand is much more important than user numbers ie 100 hours with 1 user is better than 1 hour with 100 users via Jared Spool of UIE) and if you applied this scale to users (the People-Technology Index, P-T), could you design a user experience with even more refinement than you ordinarily could? The hueristics of user experience, while informed by a list is also still a scale, so I wonder does that mean we could potentially design user experiences t even more closely match a group of PT index SQ users? Perhaps it gives us more freedom to design experiences based on data differences for males/females in particular industries without unambiguously referring to sex and the potential for the offense that entails intrinscially? I also of course, could be completely missing the point of all of this, naturally, but better to try and fail than to fail before you even try right?

    Anyway, catch you online. :)

What is an IxDF Local Group and why should I join one?

An IxDF Local Group is a meeting point for people with a passion for design in your city.

You don't need to be a designer, just passionate about great design and how it can improve your work and career.

Meetups are the heartbeat of IxDF Local Groups, whether we meet at a café, a creative space or a local company. There's nothing quite like the magic of meeting face-to-face to share ideas and inspiration.

We also host regular IxDF Design Dinners, where we enjoy great food and help each other learn and grow. Even a simple coffee meetup in a café can ignite collaborations and friendships that last a lifetime.

You'll also have a private and exclusive online forum where you can openly get help and career advice.

Simply put, we learn together and smile together.
