We are excited to welcome this months co-host Hans Kemp, Program Director User Experience Design at Schaalplus.

About Hans Kemp

Trained as an industrial designer, Hans started his career at Philips Electronics, designing the behavior of consumer electronics such as mobile phones and developing design methods and techniques for this evolving field. During the first internet bubble at the end of the last century, he worked at the Philips Design studio in Silicon Valley, California for five years. There he started focusing on web design projects. After more than a decade working at Philips he started as a freelance design consultant and got involved in educating design at the University of Applied Science in Rotterdam and Utrecht parttime.

Over the last three years Hans ran a user experience design program for recently graduated designers, coaching their onboarding in a variety of Dutch corporate organizations. There he could combine his two big passions: the field of user experience design and the coaching of ux design professionals. As of July 1st 2020, Hans will join the design agency Keen Design, where he will be responsible for a new division focusing on UX design maturity development of client organizations.

About our upcoming meetup

For many years now, the notion of various levels of maturity for organizations, when it comes to ux design has been around. Many designers experience a low level of ux design maturity as a misconception throughout the organisation of what ux design contributes. In this talk, we will discuss some models for describing and validating an organization’s ux maturity level. In relation to that, the strategic value of design for an organization will be explained as a reason why organizations should care in the first place.

We also will outline some showstoppers that can be hampering the progress of the ux design maturity in an organization. Changing the culture of an organization can be very hard. Nevertheless, we think there are several things you can do to up the level of ux design maturity as a ux design team or as an individual ux designer. We will end by sharing some best practices and tips and tricks you can start working on tomorrow.

You can ask your questions to Hans and participate in our online tools during our meetup.
