I love UX.
As a Video Editor, I grew up considering how the viewer would watch, understand, and be entertained by the programs that I worked on.
UX, and design considerations are everywhere we look.
One of my favourite "hobbies" is bad UX in supermarkets.
Dirty baskets - who wants to put fresh food in them?
Price tags on shelves not matching the product stocked!?
Once got my local Tesco to change all their prices, including on 4 pop-up displays with the product in question, across the store.
And, what is it about London Sainsbury's and Tesco stores putting up free advertising for ALDI across each store?
As a concerned citizen (with a new ALDI across the road from my flat), I do ask (wind up) my local Sainsbury's manager whether it would not be smarter to drop the price 1p below ALDI, and just write "Cheaper than ALDI"?
Than telling me that all the non-ALDI-price-matched goods should be purchased in ALDI.
Point of this event is that UX is used to make the user have a good time, but also to direct them to take a desired action that will benefit the business.
As UX professionals, let us discuss how our skills and knowledge can be used not only in digital environments but also in the more physical world, from the banal, to the more important examples.
Nothing is too small, or too large for this session.
PS: Interesting Fact, in the IxDF home country of Denmark, ALDI closed all their stores, as they could not compete.
