Senior UX Designer

Location: Sydney

Salary: $135,000 – $155,000 + Super

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer to become the first dedicated UX hire within the business.

The business is entering an exciting phase of growth and, having historically partnered with an external design agency, is now looking to bring UX capability in-house. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced designer to take ownership of the UX function, establish best practice and have a genuine influence across the customer experience and broader digital product strategy.

This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role suited to someone with approximately 5–8 years' experience who can hit the ground running, understands what good UX looks like and is comfortable operating without a senior designer above them.

You will work closely with Product, Technology, Operations and Executive stakeholders to understand complex problems, define customer journeys and design experiences that work not only digitally, but operationally.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and drive UX design across the business, becoming the internal subject matter expert for UX.
• Define customer problems and translate them into intuitive, commercially viable digital experiences.
• Work closely with Product, Technology, Operations and Executive stakeholders to understand business and customer needs.
• Take ownership of end-to-end customer journeys rather than focusing solely on individual screens or features.
• Identify second- and third-order impacts of design decisions and consider how digital changes affect the wider organisation.
• Develop UX strategies and make recommendations that balance customer experience, commercial objectives, technology and operational requirements.
• Build, maintain and evolve the organisation's design system, bringing greater consistency and scalability to the product experience.
• Establish UX best practices, processes and standards across the business.
• Translate complex business requirements into clear user journeys, wireframes, prototypes and high-quality designs.
• Partner closely with developers and technology teams to ensure designs are implemented effectively.
• Manage and collaborate with external design partners where required, transitioning ownership of UX capability in-house.
• Communicate design rationale clearly to stakeholders and confidently influence decision-making at all levels.

About You

We are looking for a senior, commercially minded UX professional who can operate independently and bring structure and maturity to the UX function.

You will ideally have:

• 5–8 years' experience in UX, Product Design or a closely related discipline.
• Strong experience working across e-commerce, marketplaces or complex customer-facing digital products.
• Experience working within operationally complex businesses where digital customer journeys are closely connected to physical or operational processes.
• A strong understanding of end-to-end customer journeys and how different parts of an organisation interact to deliver the experience.
• Strong design systems experience, including creating, maintaining or evolving scalable design systems.
• The ability to work effectively with Product, Technology, Operations and Executive stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and user-centred design skills.
• The confidence to challenge assumptions and make recommendations based on customer, business and operational considerations.
• Experience working as a senior IC without requiring significant direction or guidance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A portfolio demonstrating your thinking and design process, not simply a collection of final screens.
