📋 Description

• Apply Human Centered Design principles to develop and enhance user-centric applications
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, testers, and stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into UI/UX solutions
• Develop research-oriented questions and use indirect user insights when direct access to users is limited
• Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma
• Serve as a UI/UX accessibility subject-matter resource for cross-functional teams
• Provide guidance on accessible design practices and Section 508 compliance
• Incorporate accessibility and compliance considerations throughout the design process and before production release
• Review accessibility findings and provide actionable guidance for identifying and remediating Section 508 issues
• Support accessibility testing, audits, and remediation efforts
• Recommend design solutions and validate corrected implementations
• Incorporate feedback into iterative design improvements within an Agile delivery environment
• Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field
• Proven experience as a UI/UX Designer with a portfolio demonstrating accessible web or application design work
• Strong understanding and practical application of Human Centered Design principles in complex, constraint driven environments
• Demonstrated experience designing accessible user interfaces and advising cross-functional teams on Section 508 compliance and remediation
• Ability to translate accessibility and compliance requirements into practical recommendations
• Ability to collaborate with Business Analysts and stakeholders and translate research and user insights into practical design solutions
• Proficiency with Figma
• Experience working within Agile development teams
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Prior government/federal experience
• Experience supporting VA, DHA, HHS, or other federal/government projects
• Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines, USWDS, and federal accessibility standards and expectations
• Experience supporting accessibility testing, audits, and remediation
• Experience contributing to or working within a design system, including UI patterns, components, and documentation
• Familiarity with Miro, Mural, JIRA, and Confluence
• Ability to obtain a government clearance
• Candidate must reside within the continental US
• Selected candidates must complete fingerprinting at a government facility and undergo a background check
