UI/UX Designer | 12-Month Contract
About this role
This is digital design for people who want to make things useful, accessible and meaningful.
At [REDACTED], we are looking for a UI/UX Designer to join our Brisbane team on a 12-month maternity leave contract, commencing in late July 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a local designer to contribute to high-quality, human-centred digital products and services across government, health, education and beyond.
[REDACTED] is a leading Strategic Design and Digital Transformation consultancy based in Brisbane. We work on national projects that tackle complex challenges and create meaningful outcomes for people, communities and organisations.
At [REDACTED], we do not just design screens. We help shape services, products and experiences that work for real humans. That means thinking clearly, working collaboratively, and always asking: what does the user need, and how can we make this simpler, clearer and better?
Why this role is different
This role offers the chance to work inside a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, strategists, delivery leads and analysts on work that genuinely matters.
You will contribute across the end-to-end product lifecycle, supporting user-centred design activities from research and discovery through to wireframes, prototypes, interface design and iterative improvements. You will work within established design systems and component libraries, helping create accessible, consistent and engaging digital experiences.
For a designer who is curious, collaborative and ready to keep building their craft, this is an opportunity to gain practical experience across meaningful digital projects in a supportive Brisbane-based team.
Before you apply
This is a 12-month maternity leave contract position, commencing in late July 2026.
We are looking for someone who can bring:
- Experience or capability in UI/UX design, digital product design or a related discipline
- Confidence working with wireframes, user flows, prototypes and interface design
- Familiarity with user-centred design principles, accessibility and inclusive design
- Experience using tools such as Figma, Miro, Jira, Confluence and Adobe Creative Suite
- The ability to work collaboratively with designers, developers, delivery teams and stakeholders
- A practical, organised approach to design tasks, feedback and iteration
- The ability to work in a hybrid Brisbane-based role, including time in our [REDACTED] office
This role may suit a designer who is building their career and is comfortable working with guidance, feedback and support from more senior team members.
About the role
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the design and delivery of digital products and services. You will help create design artefacts, wireframes, user flows and clickable prototypes that support research, usability testing and product development.
You will contribute to design improvements by incorporating user feedback, research findings and usability insights. You will also work within [REDACTED]'s design systems and component libraries, applying reusable UI patterns, interaction standards, accessibility principles and brand guidelines to maintain consistency across products and platforms.
This is a hands-on design role. We are looking for someone who enjoys making, testing, refining and collaborating, not someone who wants to work in isolation.
What you will be doing
- Creating wireframes, user flows, prototypes and interface designs
- Supporting user research, usability testing and design iteration
- Applying established design systems, component libraries and UI patterns
- Helping create accessible, consistent and engaging digital experiences
- Contributing to customer journey maps and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Supporting accessibility reviews, basic accessibility testing and documentation
- Preparing design mock-ups, prototypes and visual assets
- Responding to feedback, research findings and stakeholder input
- Collaborating with designers, developers, delivery teams and stakeholders
- Helping maintain design documentation, reusable components and knowledge assets
What we are looking for
- Experience in UI/UX design, product design, digital design or a related role
- Strong working knowledge of Figma and common design collaboration tools
- Understanding of user-centred design, accessibility and inclusive design principles
- Ability to create clear design artefacts, including user flows, wireframes and prototypes
- Good visual design judgement and attention to detail
- Confidence working with brand guidelines, design systems and reusable components
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style
- Curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn
- The ability to take direction, ask good questions and seek guidance when needed
- A practical mindset and the ability to organise your own work across short timeframes
Nice to have
- Experience working on government, health, education or public service projects
- Familiarity with WCAG and accessibility testing practices
- Experience using Jira, Confluence, Miro, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft 365
- Interest in emerging AI design tools and how they can support better digital experiences
- Experience contributing to design systems or component libraries
How we work
At [REDACTED], we believe in radical simplicity, cutting through complexity to create solutions that work for real people.
You will do well here if you:
- Care about meaningful outcomes, not just beautiful interfaces
- Enjoy working closely with others in a collaborative, low-ego environment
- Are curious, adaptable and always learning
- Take feedback well and use it to improve the work
- Like solving problems through design, research and practical thinking
- Care about accessibility, inclusion and designing for real-world users
