Software Engineer — C#/WPF Desktop Application

Job Overview

Build and maintain a C#/WPF desktop application for real-time monitoring and control of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). The system delivers live telemetry, mission planning, mapping, video streaming, and multi-vehicle fleet management. You own features end-to-end: UI, ViewModels, business logic, and network messaging.

Because operators run this software in live field conditions, user experience is a first-class requirement, not an afterthought. You will design intuitive, touch-friendly, high-density interfaces and prototype them in Figma before implementation.

Responsibilities

• Design and build WPF UI following the MVVM pattern.
• Prototype and iterate UI/UX flows in Figma before coding; translate designs into pixel-accurate XAML.
• Implement real-time telemetry displays: gauges, radar, maps, video panels.
• Develop network messaging over ZeroMQ — telemetry, heartbeat, mission/waypoint updates.
• Integrate mapping/GIS (online + offline map packages, encrypted charts).
• Support multi-input control: game controller, keyboard, touch.
• Optimize for x64 performance — background threading, batched UI updates, low-latency rendering.
• Maintain clean, dense, readable code.

Required Qualifications

• Strong C# and .NET (modern versions, Windows).
• Production WPF experience — XAML, data binding, custom controls, styles/themes.
• Solid grasp of MVVM (INotifyPropertyChanged, commands, converters).
• User Experience (UX) design skill with Figma — wireframing, prototyping, component libraries, design-to-code handoff.
• Unix experience, specifically Debian — command line, package management, system administration.
• Multithreading / async and UI-thread discipline (dispatcher, background workers).
• Git-based workflow (branching, PRs, merge resolution).

Desired Qualifications

• Windows 11 administration and deployment.
• BASH scripting.
• SSH and RDP for remote access and administration.
• General networking — TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, troubleshooting.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

• Exposure to C++, C*, Python, HTML, and CSS*.
• Working with YAML and Properties configuration files.
• GIS charts experience.
• Real-time / telemetry or control-system experience.
• GIS / mapping runtime experience.
• Networking with ZeroMQ or comparable messaging.
• Video streaming (LibVLC or similar), embedded web (WebView2).
• Game controller / HID input.
• Structured logging.
• Localization / multi-culture UI.
• Maritime, defense, or unmanned-systems domain knowledge.
