About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer with sharp product thinking, strong design fundamentals, and an ability to own projects from concept to delivery.

What you’ll do

• Lead research and design projects end-to-end.
• Partner closely with engineering and product to complete projects on the roadmap.
• Create mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals to communicate your ideas and describe their intent and execution.
• Lead user research and report your findings to help us make better decisions.
• Mentor and collaborate with our associate researcher on research projects.
• Use and improve our design system.
• Review built features to ensure they match design intent and quality standards.
• Participate in our hiring process as we grow the team.

What we’re looking for

Required

• 3-4 hour overlap with US Pacific Time
• 5+ years experience designing software
• Strong interaction and visual design fundamentals
• Experience with prototyping (we’re currently using [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED]/[REDACTED] primarily, but we encourage you to explore new tooling and share your learnings with the team)
• Experience leading user research
• Experience mentoring others or leading teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in fluent, though not necessarily native, English)

Nice-to-have

• Experience designing complex admin tooling: permissions, multiple role types, records management, financial workflows, or reporting.
• Experience designing for education or non-profits
• Experience building and maintaining design systems
• Expertise or interest in accessibility
• Familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, and component architecture

What it’s like to work with us

[REDACTED] is a small and mighty company, and we know how to do a lot with a little. You’ll be the first design hire reporting directly to our Head of UX and collaborating closely with 4-5 engineers, our Head of Engineering, and our product manager. While we care a lot about our customers, we put our team first.

You’ll have the support you need balanced with the autonomy to structure your work in a way that best suits you.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and engaged cross-functional team. While our design team is small, you’ll have plenty of people around you to sharpen your thinking, provide feedback, and pair on problems.

We value focused work. Most of your time will be spent doing research and design.

Each week, you’ll participate in a research standup and a 1:1 with our Head of UX, but we’ll leave it up to you to decide what other meetings you need to move work forward.

We care about a healthy work-life balance. You won’t be working more than 40 hours a week except during the rarest of emergencies.

• Salary range: $140k-150k depending on experience

Our hiring process

Our hiring process is designed to give us the best sense of who you are, your relevant past experience, and how you think through problems without being overly demanding of your time. We know interviewing can be a stressful, long process, so we don’t require white boarding, take-home assignments, or all-day on-site interviews.

1. Application

   You submit your resume and portfolio and fill out a short questionnaire. Our team reviews each one and will reach out if you’re selected for the next round.

2. Non-technical interview (30 min)

   If we choose to move forward, we’ll follow up with a 30-minute non-technical call where we can learn about your background, what you’re looking for, and whether the role may be a good fit for both sides.

3. Past work presentation (45 min)

   You’ll present some of your past work with a focus on your design process, how you solve problems and overcome challenges, and how you communicate and collaborate with a cross-functional team. We would like to see something beyond just a walk through of your portfolio, ideally a presentation deck with 1-2 polished case studies.

4. App critique (30 min)

   We’ll ask you to critique an app to get a sense of how you think about product, systems, and visual craft, as well as how you prioritize and communicate. At the start of the interview, we’ll provide you with a [REDACTED] file containing a flow from an app we’ve selected and ask you to share your screen during the critique.

5. Decision and offer

   Our team will review your materials and scores from each interview round. If you’re selected, we’ll extend an offer, discuss logistics, and give you time to decide.
