In This Course, You'll

  • Get excited to build accessible, findable websites that work for everyone and perform better because of it. Think of a ramp: designed for wheelchair users, yet a relief for anyone with a stroller, a suitcase, or a bicycle. The same effect runs through the web. Semantic HTML, heading hierarchies, alt text, and captions for videos make pages accessible to people with disabilities. They also make those pages more usable for everyone and findable by search engines and AI. As Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, put it, “The power of the Web is in its universality.” In this course, you’ll learn how SEO, accessibility, dynamic interfaces, and usability evaluation work together to help you design better websites and interfaces. Whether you're new to UX or are a senior designer looking for a streamlined approach to three of your biggest responsibilities, this course is for you. No coding experience required.

  • Make yourself invaluable when you can fix the two places digital products lose many users: forms and dynamic updates. You'll design forms that work for everyone, with single-column layouts, keyboard navigation, and flexible input handling that accepts a phone number, however users type it. And to make sure nothing slips through before launch, you’ll get a downloadable Form Design Checklist. Drawing on Daniel Simons' "invisible gorilla" experiment and Ron Rensink's change blindness research, you'll learn to design dynamic updates users actually notice. You’ll also use progressive enhancement and WAI-ARIA live regions to keep your AJAX content working for screen readers and search engines alike. AI tools can generate a dynamic interface in seconds, but they routinely produce markup that traps keyboards and breaks for screen readers. The standards-based skills in this course are what make those interfaces work for everyone.

  • Gain confidence and credibility as you learn how to find usability issues, test assumptions, and improve designs based on evidence. You’ll start with Jakob Nielsen's 10 usability heuristics. These principles have guided interface design for 30 years, and you’ll extend them into benchmarking, so you can score your designs with a ready-to-use Benchmarking Spreadsheet and compare your product against competitors. You'll know when to reach for paper prototyping and how to plan and run usability testing sessions that catch problems before launch. And you'll navigate the legal landscape of accessibility, from WCAG 2.2 compliance to landmark cases like Target's $6 million lawsuit, so you can defend accessibility investment to stakeholders with evidence.

  • Craft your personal portfolio with optional hands-on activities where you'll complete an accessibility audit, a dynamic interface audit, and a full expert evaluation of a real interface. You'll finish with portfolio-ready case studies that show recruiters you can find and fix real usability and accessibility problems. With laws now actively enforced worldwide and, according to UsableNet, over 5,000 digital accessibility lawsuits filed in the US alone each year, your ability to build inclusive, compliant products is a genuine business advantage, and one that can help you land your next role.
